Thursday Thirteen | All About You

So I didn’t hold up my end of the deal with the whole Thursday Thirteen thing last month. HOWEVER, what I did do was totally enjoy getting to know my readers better. I loved hearing about the people who are special to you (that you would take on a coffee date – it takes a…

melissa ellen parker - If money or skill-set was no issue, what would you love to do for a living?
If money were not an issue, I would go to medical school and be a transplant surgeon. This would never work in the real world, but it would be nice to have a private practice where my patients are all in need of transplants and I would be fully involved in their treatment/care/transplant coordination as well as the surgeries. I could go on and on about this. Maybe I’ll write more on my own blog

My mother-in-law let me live with her during a very difficult time in my life and before I was engaged or even married to my husband.

Stephanie - 1. If money or skill-set was no issue, what would you love to do for a living?

Be a stay at home mommy and be super involved in everything they do, and plan parties, and have word jars, and play pretend…and still get paid for it so we wouldn’t have to worry about the money situation since I wouldn’t be working!

2. If you could fix or put an end to one problem in the world what would it be?

Ignorance.

3. What is one of your favorite traits about yourself?

I don’t have anything favorites about myself. I suppose I like the fact that I am extremely analytical. I notice the details to everything. Sometimes it’s a good thing, sometimes it isn’t – I usually over analyze EVERYTHING. Ask Jason ;)

4. Share with me the name of one person who inspires you.

Jason does of course; he tells me when I’m being rude. I need that. He makes me want to be a genuinely nicer person.

5. If you could get rid of one type of music forever, what would it be? Band, genre, artist?

Techno. Ugh. And take your stupid glowsticks too.

6. If you could choose your talent, what talent would you give to yourself? Why?

Hm. I think I’d want to be much more confident. Is that a talent? I think it’s a learned behavior. I guess as far as talents go, I wish I could look in the fridge like my mom and say “Oh, I’ll make this for dinner tonight out of this, this and this…” Yeah. I need a box with all the ingredients included, and directions on the side.

7. What sort of vacation do you enjoy most?

Outer Banks – Hottest days of the summer; when you walk outside in the morning to feel the status of the beach day and you can’t breathe because it’s so hot and sticky – you’re like yeah, this is gonna be a good beach day – maybe a day for some beers too! And then when you get to the beach and after you get out of the water you can’t tell whether you’re still wet from the water or it’s sweat…I love those days.

8. Reach out your arm to your left. What is closest at hand? To your right?

Spring Oreos (I asked Jason to get me a Cucumber and Baby Carrots for dinner…and he said “Ok, I got you a seasonal surprise too!” – Gee thanks honey, so much for losing weight for the wedding!) and on the right – nothing, a couch pillow.

9. If you took a six month sabbatical from your work / life situation, what would you do?

Hopefully I would still be getting paid. And hopefully the Army would allow Jason a 6 month sabbatical also – and then we would go on all the trips we already dream about. A honeymoon perhaps, a nice long cruise, a trip to London, of course the beach, and home to Virginia. Maybe make some babies ;)

10. If you HAD to change your name, what would you change it to?

I’m too indecisive for this. I think I look like a Stephanie. Let’s go with…Ellen. It’s what I was going to be named anyway. And besides, I love Ellen DeGeneris

11. If you were stranded on an island and could take ONE person with you, who would it be?

Jason. Duh.

12. What is your favorite (encouraging) quote?

“The true test of character is not how much we know how to do, but how we behave when we don’t know what to do.”

13. What is the kindest thing anyone has ever done for you?

I’ve known A LOT of generous people in my lifetime. I’m going to have to say my parents have been very kind. I’ve lived at home for multiple summers and then some. Daddy paid my way through 6 years of college and all 6 years of housing; he still pays for my gas (!) (Don’t worry I’ll cut the cord soon) He built me credit without my even knowing, I have no student loans to pay off. I’m a very lucky girl with a very financially savvy father. And a mother who will justify any spending to him if she bought it for me <3

Julie - Finally got mine done! :)
